Philadelphia! And more running, in Annapolis

So once again, Jeff and I and 14 DC Front Runners went to Philadelphia for the Philly Distance Run. Another fun weekend, blessed with glorious running weather. Sunday, September 21. Before that, more running! In August, the DC Front Runners ran in beautiful Annapolis for their 10 mile race on a hot but gorgeous day.

Barcelona, London, and Vilnius in July 2008

Back from a fantastic summer trip to Europe. The first part was mostly work related in Barcelona for the EuroScience Open Forum, but the rest was pure fun. In London I saw Kylie Minogue in concert on her X2008 tour, and then I visited Vilnius, Lithuania for the first time. Pictures are here.

IGLA 2008! Pride!

June was a busy month! DCAC put together a successful International Lesbian and Gay Aquatics (IGLA) 2008 championships, and won the large-team swim trophy for the 9th time. Of course, there are lots of pictures, including here. The Washington Blade had a preview, blogged about it, and published lots of pictures (including one of me). Metro Weekly previewed it, too, and took photos (I'm in photo #60 and #82, marking the first time I've been in the Blade and MW the same week). DCAC had roving photographers taking lots and lots of pictures. I mean lots.

And of course, June was Pride month. As usual, Jeff and I overdid it by participating in both DC and NY Pride. We ran the NY Pride Run in Central Park on a muggy morning.

Once again, we had great fun at the Dance on the Pier. Then it was back on the road, with trips to Minneapolis and Indianapolis for work.

We've just adopted a cat, Tulip. Such a sweetheart. This should mean we stay home more, but somehow I don't think that's going to happen.

New Mexico!

In May, I went to New Mexico for work. The meeting was in Santa Fe and my lab visit was to Los Alamos, but my free time was spent exploring Albuquerque, Taos, and beautiful places in between. I have pictures, though I don't have pictures of Part 2 of the trip to Las Vegas. That was fun, too.

I've had many work trips, but in April I had my first work trip to the hometown of Columbus. So here I am all dressed up for my hometown speech to an energy R&D conference in downtown Columbus, at the front door of my parents' house. Mom was so proud.

Catching up to do! Colombia

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted new photos. Not to worry, I have been to a lot of places. I went to Colombia in April for work, my first time in South America. I had a busy few days in Bogota, really just one day to look around and take a few pictures. Fascinating place.

But the highlight of my travels so far this year is a week long trip I took to India in January. It was for work, courtesy of the Department of Commerce. I spent several days in Kolkata and then Delhi. The highlight was of course the day I spent in Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. It really is every bit as beautiful as everyone says. So of course there are lots of pictures, including several of me taken by some kind Koreans and Japanese.

Along the way, Jeff and I found time to go skiing in several different places, including three mountains in Vermont (with a side trip to Montreal), Vail (with my parents and others), and even Snowshoe WV for Easter.

MEXICO!

We had a wonderful sunny week in Mexico. Mom, Dad, Maureen and Brooke Dutton, Jeff's Aunt Danna, Jeff, and I spent Thanksgiving week in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. Pictures are here!

Miss Adams Morgan 2007 and the High Heel Race!

Miss Sue Nami made her annual appearance at the ball, joined this year by Miss Livina Doublewide of Arkansas making her DC debut. As usual, a glamorous cast of characters. And at last, the much-deserved coronation of Miss Texas, Miss Barbara Ann Bushwacker as Miss Adams Morgan 2007! My friend Matt has a wonderful photo album of the night, including Jeff's transformation into Livina. Barry really outdid himself with a beautiful slideshow of the night, we appear toward the end.

A few weeks later, Ms. Doublewide made her debut in High Heel Race, joined by Ms. Nami in her eighth race. There's a video of the race night, though not of us, unfortunately. Another video of the race itself shows me running past the other side of the street at the :30 mark.

And it was all capped off Halloween night by Heidi Ho and her East German swimmer sisters in their 3rd place entry into the DCAC costume contest.

The Canadian Rockies!

Our summer vacation this year was to the Canadian Rockies. From Calgary, Jeff, my parents, and I headed to Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper for a gloriously cool week of hiking, sightseeing, and relaxing. We loved these mountains! Wildlife, glaciers, icebergs, clouds, sun, long hikes, it was all wonderful. Here are the pictures.

Escaping the DC heat in HALIFAX

The summer heat of DC finally got to me on the day it climbed above 100. So I booked a last-minute trip up north, to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Pictures are here. COOL, COOL, COOL. And fun, too.

San Antonio

A short work trip to San Antonio in July (!). Yes, the weather was hot and humid, but it wasn't so bad. I enjoyed the RiverWalk, fine food, and some interesting art. Pictures are here. When I came back to an equally hot and humid DC, I went up 16th Street to the Legg Mason tennis tournament to see Andy Roddick and a young tennis player named KEI.

PRIDE 2007

I had a fabulous time at DC Pride 2007, one of the best ever, except for Pride '97 (!) when I met Jeff and Pride '98 when we had our first kiss and started dating. As always, we marched with DCAC the swim team, and there were lots of pictures taken. These are all other people's pictures. In the NAVY! A few shutterbugs just couldn't help themselves and snapped dozens and dozens of shots. Thanks, dcdivrguy. Wow. And a few weeks later, because we just couldn't get enough, Jeff and I went up to New York for NY Pride and had a fantastic time at the Pier Dance (again). Not my pictures, but South African Greg's.

Paris, je t'aime

It's been too long, but I have some new photos! Jeff and I went to Paris with the DC swim team for the IGLA 2007 championships. We did great as a team, coming in 2nd. I did beautifully, with two personal bests, my first individual IGLA medals (two bronzes), and my first men's relay medal (a silver). Next year's IGLA will be in DC (June 18-22, 2008). The Paris photos are here, including trips to the top of the Eiffel Tower and to Monet's home in Giverny. More to follow. Our Pink Flamingo was fabulous, but I'm not sure anyone filmed it. Someone filmed the Paris team's Pink Flamingo. And Chris took lots of pictures of the DC Pink Flamingo. Truly LA VIE EN ROSE!

Seoul, South Korea

Latvia and Estonia

For Thanksgiving week, I traveled to London, and from there to Riga, Latvia and Tallinn, Estonia. The pictures are here. It was a dready, gray, and cold week in the Baltics but I enjoyed wandering through these previously unknown nations. A wonderful mix of the medieval and the modern. Mostly solitary, since it was very much off season.

Miss Adams Morgan and the High Heel Race

It's October, so you know what that means... Miss Kim Chee comes out! But of course, I dressed up for Miss Adams Morgan 2007, along with several of my swim teammates. We were all fabulous, as you can see. Jeff was missing; he doesn't like it when I'm taller and prettier than he is. The 17th Street High Heel Race was another chance for Kim Chee to shine. It was freezing cold, but she wore her miniskirt anyway, curtsied to Adrian Fenty, flirted with straight boys, and nearly fell over dashing to the finish line far behind the winner Ron Brown. Labor Day weekend in Seattle

Jeff and I went to Seattle for Labor Day weekend. We had a beautiful weekend, though we didn't carry our camera around everywhere. We did get pictures of our trip to Mount Rainier National Park, though. Beautiful!

I went to Big Sky, Montana, for a week-long science policy conference, bookended by time in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. The photos are here.

Gay Games VII in Chicago!

Jeff and I had a wonderful time in Chicago for Gay Games VII. Finally, at my third Games, I won my first medal! I have a bronze medal from the triple jump competition in the track and field event. My first-ever track meet, not to mention my very first triple and long jumps as well as my first races around a track. In comparison, swimming was almost old hat, but I had a great swim meet as well. Jeff also came home with a bronze, in the 4 x 800 (track) relay. My photos are here.

While we were in Chicago, DCAC put on a fabulous Pink Flamingo show. In the spirit of the event, we did Jack and Ennis' Underwater Fantasy as pink sheep. We have a slide show of our performance! Lots of Gay Games pictures are here. Notice how our pink outfits stand out. My teammate Dan took a lot of pictures of our preparations. Once again, it's easy to see his PF pictures because of all the pink.

Utah - Zion and Bryce Canyon

After the Gay Games, I went to Salt Lake City for work, but drove down south to Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks. Magnificent scenery, as you can see here. It was a glorious, though hot, weekend of hiking.

Though it's raining and raining now, it's been great to be outdoors a lot of the time. I've been swimming a lot outdoors. Our DCAC coach Wonkee has captured all the sunshine and the pool on film. Now if only the sun would come back...

DC Pride 2006

DCAC won best walking contingent at DC Pride. I achieved a measure of fame through a photo in Metro Weekly. I only took a few pictures, but there were other photographers who captured us really well. And Jonathan was not only a star, but a photographer. We had a wonderful time! Someone even captured us on video rehearsing for the parade!
